The mitochondria-selective anti-oxidant MitoTEMPO suppressed hemin-induced cell but not ROS production. Among the NADPH oxidase inhibitors, diphenyleneiodonium chloride (DPI), apocynin, and VAS2870, only DPI suppressed hemin-induced ROS production and cell death.
